Activists arrested because of Facebook post
In January 2016, Charles Rwomushana, a former Internal Security Organization (ISO) Head of Political Intelligence, was arrested after he published a picture on Facebook, which allegedly showed the dead body of Christopher Aine, the security chief of opposition presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi.
He was charged with criminal defamation/libel, spreading sectarianism through the media and instigating violence.
On January 29, 2016, Also Allan Kitonsa, an activist, was arrested after publishing ‘critical’ posts on his Facebook account. Following his arrest, Allan was first detained at Kabalagala Police Station before being transferred to Kibuli CID Police Headquarters. He was further transferred to the Special Investigations Division in Kireka for further interrogation.
